When the idea, fascination and interest of becoming an acupuncturist hit me, i “knew” there was 1 or 2 little life changes that would be occurring such as “Back to school”(after trying so long to get out), STUDY(which scared me half to death), and…well yes, thats all i was concerned with really. Its all i presumed would change.? Oh how i was wrong!

Firstly the “back to school” part was a doddle cause im doing something i love. I have amazed myself in the aspect of study. In recent education i would try and try to engage my brain with the material on the page, but never any joy, to the extent where i thought i possibly suffered from a learning disability. I am now studying daily, retaining everything, and enjoying the proccess. Studying Traditional Chinese medicine is a life altering experience. You simply dont/cant study, instead you LIVE it!
I didnt think my life would change very much, afterall i was only entering a new education, but it has changed dramatically and for the better. Learning the principles of TCM has opened my eyes so much to what really matters in life. Its teaching me how fragile we are as energy beings, and also how POWERFULL we are!!(if we choose)
During my last life(my first 20 years, 22 now) i was a generally effected by illness very easily and frequently, with copious coughs, colds, and the dreaded swollen glands which i suffered from any time i was tired or stressed, which was pretty much constantly. I was a very inward thinker, constantly in my own head and over assessing everything. Chinese medicine has made me less selfish and more compassionate with others. Also treating other and concentrating on the patient takes you out of your own head and really in turn keeps me healthy and happy! In the past year i have renewed my entire way of thinking, working and living. Studying TCM makes you look at ones-self, and diagnose yourself weather you like it or not. Its all a growing process.

The fundamental of Chinese Medicine is “Balance”. Its all based on harmonious balance; body and mind, yin and yang. If one isnt balanced, thats when stagnation of our vital energy(qi(Chi) occurs and leads to disease and disharmony of the body. This is how illness happens, be it acute or chronic. Emotion is a big element of stagnating energy. Acupuncture concentrates on un-blocking these energy pathways; known as Meridians.
Since starting my studies i have been LIVING TCM! In order to be a good practitioner i think its nessecary. I am now stronger and healthier than i have ever been, which is very important when your treating others energy.
I am practicing a chinese energy building modality called QiGong which has drastically lifted my energy, health and has improved everyday life. I believe weather your studying TCM or a practitioner, it is your responsibility to be a great practitioner for your patients, which means being internally strong and grounded. In this day and age that can only be achieved by practicing QiGong(translated as energy work). Afterall how do you expect to help patients if you yourself are not strong enough.

So my entrance into TCM was highly under-estimated on my part. It has become my way of life, and something which i am eternally greatful for having found! There is always SOMETHING to learn, and the joy is you come to find your own style in treating patients very early on!
Peace Out
Chris

Firstly welcome to my blog, where at the best of times, you shall find all things spiritual, from health to happiness
…..and all inbetween
Theres just that moment, that one particular moment, and its magic! Where your beliefs, your ways of thinking, your appreciation, your idea of what is REALLY important in life, just shifts. This occurs effortlessly, like it was ment to be, no matter how much you resisted and fought, or tried to change an outcome, whatever the result, it WAS and IS ment to be. Isnt it??
Many People talk about arriving on earth with a plan, a destiny, a laid out roadmap which is their life unfolding. Its known as the “Tao”. Its something that only recently ,in my still very “early years of life”, have come to believe very passionately. This understanding and concious change for me is all apart of moving into the afternoon of my life, as Dr Wayne Dyer put so well.
In the book “Tao te Ching”, the author; an amazing man by the name of Lao Tzu speaks of this Tao. He teaches that we should all live as water. Its the softest, nicest, flowing medium on the earth. Its so gentle and allowing to flow where it flows that its powerful enough, when simply flowing, to errode ROCK! So who would you like to be? The Hard great mountanous fierce rock fighting against everything? Or the gentle, allowing, flowing and EVER powerful water? Well im afraid of heights so my choice is the latter.
Day in, day out, we struggle, moan & complain, fight, and all in all, resist the flow. Going against situations, and really just making day to day life a little harder on ourselves . People go through life in different ways, experience different things, but regardless of the outcome; be it good or bad, this is how our time on earth is measured, as a success or a failure. This is where the morning of ones life is started off. Being brought up to “achieve”, to be “succesfull” and the big one; having “ambition”. Now ask yourself, do these all sound like fantasticly positive traits to have instilled?
Maybe your even thinking youd like to be acuainted with one or two? Unfortunately these are very good “qualities” to be seen with in society today. You see these people who ooze success and ambition, and your thinking hmmm i sure would like to have what they have, right? Trust me i know the feeling lol. As children we are thought to get good grades in school, if we get an F, well that simply means your a failure and not good enough, so what happens, you have to strive harder to be just as good as your fellow classmates. THIS is the mentality we are kicked into the world with. To be Better, and in turn for being the best, what do you get? An identity, a reputation, this great big impressive way in which you are seen by other people, and all in all, Happiness?
This is all driven by the EGO; And how do you empower this EGO even more? Material! The new sports car, the big house, the private jet and so on. Im sure you get the drift by now. When your at that place in your life, being the best, your so consumed in not losing it. Because after all, what are you, or who are you when it all collapses? This material? This identity? Cause it ALWAYS collapses. The reason being? Because its not real, and is all generated by the ego. The Ego who knows if he lets it slip away he dies, cause where does the ego go when all its fuel is running out. It simply fades away, and if its your ego, then so do you.
Thankfully this was not a life situation true to me(no sports cars lol), but youl hear and see, be it personally or in the media, people who had it all, lost it all, and then hear them talk about it. And its simply amazing that in order for them to see what is truely important and selfless in life, they had to lose everything they “thought” was life, and now they are at a new relaxed state of happiness and a simple knowing that everything works out.
Heres the beauty, its so simple to tell weather your living from ego or from your higher self at this time. Just ask; what is more important, making myself happy, or making others happy? Because when you enter the afternoon of your life, and your finally living from your higher self, that question will ring true, because what makes you happy, is the joy in helping, serving and loving others, which in turn makes them happy. Your identity is not material, but instead its love, and love towards yourself and others.
Reading this you may think that its truley impossible to think that way, and that im speaking all “new agey” ladeee-daaa kinda stuff and talking through my hole, and you are entiltled to your opinion. Whilst reading alot of spiritual material by Lao Tzu, Deepak Chopra and Wayne Dyer, i too banished that so-called un reachable desire. Believing that if i ever was to be feeling that, i would have to be forcing it and pretending. I am eternally grateful to be in a place right now, in my journey, that i have experienced that shift, and the movement into the afternoon of my life.
A little background on my own experience. As a young teenager and into my early twentys i was always a very driven confident and ambitious individual. It was the way i was brought up. Unfortuntely i was ambitious for the wrong materialistic reasons, and it all backfired. I was in a job i thought i loved, but it wasnt me, it was my Ego who was in love. After realising this “apparant” self claim i made, i had to take some type of action. This was an EXTREMELY terrifying thing for me to do, and i think when you come to a life changing point, all revolving around a single decision, its a clear sign your on track of making that shift, not from ego, but your true self, the more terrifying, the bigger the shift! I had studied in college for two years for my position, behind me a very VERY poor secondary education to fall back on, (i believe basket weaving was the only course i could get into lol) and had landed my so-called dream job, everything iv always(thought) i wanted, and upoun obtaining it i realised that its not what i could continue persuing. Without worrying, JUST FREAKING OUT, i just made the seemingly “selfish” call to make the change, feeling the sinking feeling of letting down others in turn, but knowing in every aspect of my being ,it had to happen, and it had to happen NOW! Right, the happy part……
Since that life altering decision i have become the happiest version of myself that i ever thought possible. Im studying in Traditional Chinese Medicine and training for a degree in acupuncture, meaning the boy with 170 points out of 600 in his leaving cert, will now hopefully have the title of “Dr” in front of his name in 3 years time(yup a little ego thrown in, wer still human lol) I absolutely love what i am doing, im in love with helping people, and only now know i can turn that cleche’d statement on its back and say that helping others really does make you happy, takes u out of your ego, and concentrates you on the happiness of others, which in turn, generates the truest happiness for me.
Il finish up by wishing you ALL the happiness spiritually possible. Always follow your true self, its that little nudge that gives you your guided intuition, which is ignored so much today by people because of fear and worry of “what will be”.
Happiness isnt material,
Happiness isnt in struggle,
Happiness is already in you,
Be Water
Flow
ALLOW!!!
